Kingston Park Raceway

 Kingston Park Raceway

Kingston Park Raceway is a really good go-kart place.

I remember going as a young kid at like eight or nine or ten and only being allowed on the tiny indy car oval circuit.

When I was a young teen of 12 or 13. I remember doing the amatuer 30 or 40kmh? circuit that they have close to the road outside the venue. It was a start finish line. And a square left... small straight.. a tight right and hairpin left. Then down a bigger straight. Into a long plumbing S bend kinda thing. And finally a right and onto the straight.

The thrill of having your bottom so close to the ground is part of the thrill and fun of go-karting.
The sense of speed is amplified with your buttocks so close to the ground. You have very direct feel with the kart too. There is no suspension.. So you feel every single bump, hump, ripple, pebble, dirt, sand, white line, kerb etc etc. You also have no power-steering so the wheel is heavy and really works the arms however it has a very direct 'feel' you almost feel as if the wheel of a go-kart is an extension of your own body. The engines may only be lawn-mower engines? (Correct me if I am wrong). But with the four.. five ... six... ten or fifteen whatever many horsepower they may be ... They are fast enough because go-karts are very light! There are no gears. So once again you get a very raw, realistic and direct feel from even what the engine is doing.

I remember once during a Friday night challenge,... I had won one race(the practice?),.. and finished second or third in the next one,.. then it was reverse grid order.. I came second or third again from last.... And in a final third race. I was told during the brief by one of the staff "remember don't warm up the tyres." I don't know it is was me being naughty or reverse psychology. But I was a little poo and went left and right to try to get some heat into the tyres and guess what ?! I spun out !!! and I did a really awkward U-turn and as everyone was starting the race.. I had only just caught up to them down the main start finish straightaway. DO NOT go and warm up the tyres just let them be !

Everyone is having fun. It is good practice and insight into what a car would be like. (When you have never ever driven a car). Everyone is always happy. I have never seen a sad person go-karting. Even the loser has a smile on their face.

Kingston park has always been good. The staff are friendly and helpful and all enjoy being there. The facilities and amenities are great. I have always had a positive experience. Never ever a bad one. I have had many birthday parties there. And I have done a big handful of "Friday Night Challenges".

Whether you are a long-term resident of Brisbane, Gold-coast, Sunny-coast or surrounding areas it is well worth your time to go have some fun at Kingston Park Raceway. Maybe ring first because they are very popular.
